Iceland, as all of the world describes it, is amazing. From mountains and volcanoes to the giant waves of the ocean, it’s an amazing place to unwind and enjoy the views. However, like most beautiful places you see online, it comes with a price tag and in Iceland, it’s not just the touristy parts that are expensive. The country is ranked as one of the top three most expensive places to visit in Europe. In this post I will break down some of the expected costs of taking a two week vacation in Iceland.

The Plane Ticket | $1,292 USD

If you are traveling from the US, the plane ticket is about the only “steal” you are going to get when traveling to Iceland, but don’t let that fool you. I am using the price of a ticket from Kansas City directly to Keflavik because that is where we flew out of, it’s in the middle of the country so prices should vary based on population of city and proximity to Iceland. In Iceland’s busy season (around late July) you can find one round trip ticket for two weeks at $646 USD on google flights. Let’s double that so you can bring your travel buddy along, you are already sitting at well over $1,000 USD.

Car Rentals | $1,184 USD + $130 USD gas

If you want to do Iceland on a budget, walking or using public transportation is always an option…
