Fame, the ability to only work 20 hours a week or making more money than you ever thought possible. Every year more people flock to the idea of being a “day trader.” I mean, who wouldn’t? It sounds nice. The internet gurus I view online daily make it seem as if they do no work and make millions of dollars. That sounds nice to just about anyone with less than a million in their bank account, myself included. But the truth about day trading, like many other internet things, sounds a little too good to be true. Before the hype of being a day trader hit main society, there was a time I wanted to become one. Years ago, I was determined to day trade for a living. I was young and hungry to make a name for myself. I wanted to prove everyone wrong. So I bought tons of books on day trading and read them all in less than a year. Here is what they taught me.

For one thing, it is harder than it seems, much harder. If you are on the west coast like me, the stock market opens at 6:30 AM. You will want to get up much earlier than that, so you aren’t a walking zombie and need to research the stocks you will trade for the day. Most of the trading happens in the first two hours of the market open, and if the stock is going up, it is already too late.
