Read This If You Are Feeling Depressed

So there I was. 18. I had just moved back to Missouri from Hawaii in the dead of winter. I started the same well-paying office job I was at before I left. I got a car loan and was living the American dream. There was one problem. I was depressed, massively.

Most days, I couldn’t get out of bed. I called into work a lot even when I was working from home! Depression is one of the many things that are impossible to explain. It’s like you want to do things, but you can’t because you don’t care enough about anything. You hate yourself and every heartbeat that came with it. My soul was lost, and so was my mind. If I wasn’t working, I was sleeping or laying in bed staring at the ceiling. My therapist didn’t help, and neither did my family. I felt as if I was on my own island, beating the drum to my sad, lonely beat.

There is no cure for depression. With many alternative methods to help the symptoms, none that I tried worked. I want to share how I “cured” my depression on my own. I am not a doctor, nor telling you what to do. I am simply a writer that is here to share his story.
