The Three Best Life Lessons I Learned From Wild Camping Europe for 3 Months
During the summer of 2019, before we ever knew of a modern pandemic. I spent three months in Europe, mostly living out of the tent I carried on my back. It was one of the best summers of my life and the summer where I learned the most about myself. I got close to death one too many times. Nonetheless, this trip taught me more about life than any classroom, and today I want to share with you the three most important and best life lessons I learned from this crazy experience.
Things will never go as planned.
While prepping for this trip, I knew there would be times where I was miles from the nearest town. I needed to bring the supplies that would allow me to survive and keep my weight at a level I could carry. We planned out our routes to the tee. I got topical maps and tracked the weather closely while there. But no matter how much planning we put into the trip, everything went sideways from day one. We went to 3 other countries than planned, and just about everything else mapped out was thrown out.
This wasn’t a bad thing, things changed, and we knew we had to be flexible. If you aren’t willing to go with the flow, then you are fighting yourself against the flow of the current of life. Despite most of what we planned to do changed in the moment, I wouldn’t have wanted to trip any other way. This brings me to arguably the most important thing I learned while over there.
