Why I Get Up Early — Even On Weekends(D.21)
Getting up early. The thing nobody wants to talk about. After a long hard week at work, the last thing anyone wants to do is get up at 6:00 AM on a Saturday. Or do they? Getting up early, especially on the weekends, can seem like a daunting chore, but in reality, it can benefit you more than anything else this weekend. Let’s talk about that.
I started getting up early while in high school because of swim each day. I had to get up at 4 a.m., crawl out of bed, drive halfway across town to a freezing cold pool right swim. Staring at a black line for hours before school started every day. Previously I hated getting up early. I found any excuse to sleep until at least 1 p.m. on weekends. Some days in school, I would fall asleep during class because I was obsessed with sleep and, more importantly, was not obsessed with getting up early. After years and years of getting up at 4 a.m. most days of the week, including on Saturday, it rewired my brain to get up early no matter what. Even when I had a chance to sleep in, like on Saturdays, I realize that my body was automatically getting up around 7 a.m. no matter how hard I tried to fall back asleep, I just couldn’t. I was so use to getting up early and felt like I slept until 1 p.m but couldn’t. At first, I hated it. I’d sit there and bed extremely frustrated that I couldn’t sleep, but after doing some quick math in my head…
